The Importance of Getting Away
I returned from Croatia almost a week ago now and I have just felt fantastic this week!
I went with a very close friend and we just chilled. We were able to go and see some sights and experience some of the wonderful culture. The people we met were all lovely, friendly and welcoming, especially our apartment owners who brought us some fresh fruit from their garden the first morning we got there.
We found, on a number of occasions, that we were saying we 'should' do this or 'should' do that. However, why should we? Why shouldn't we just do exactly what we want to in that moment. And if that means saying in the apartment because it is raining, that is perfectly acceptable. Or if we want to have a lazy morning then spend a few hours on the beach, why shouldn't we do that? Well we didn't have an answer to that so having lazy morning and raining days and afternoons on the beach is exactly what we did. It was glorious!
Just being able to get away, physically bringing in a different place for a while. Relaxing and not thinking about all the day to day stuff. Yes things popped in to my brain, things I had to do when I got home but I just wrote them down in a note on my phone and then forgot about it.
The week we were away was the longest period of time in such a long time that I have not felt anxious. I often am finding that my brain is not worrying about anything specifically but my body still feels the physical symptoms. But this week, nothing. Complete relaxation. It was as if I could breath again.
This week I have noticed the affect that break has had. I went straight back in to work but I felt much calmer within myself.
So the key learning point is ... it is good to get away.
It doesn't matter if it is the other side of the world or just 3 hours away but get away physically. Explore somewhere new. And do it by yourself or with one person you whole heartedly trust and who is on the same page about things you want to do, where you want to go.
The sun helps too!
On an extra note about Croatia, one thing we did thoroughly enjoy was the sea organ. If you go to Zadar go and see the sea organ ... or go and listen to the sea organ. I am going to put a small disclaimer here in the fact that we went a couple of times and found it only really worked well when the water was a bit choppier. It creates such a beautiful sound. (I would attach a video here ... but I haven't figured that big out yet as the video is on my phone and putting in on here ... you will just have to go and see it for yourself)
